Free Plug for Emigrant Direct

So I got this package on the doorstep a few days ago… and when I picked it up to look at it, I knew immediately what it was.

The famous Emigrant Direct baseball cap. Yes! I finally got one!

The design could be a bit better though. I don’t think I’ll be wearing it – not a real baseball cap person anyway. If I have a son though, I’ll be forcing it on him when we go out. It’ll be a great conversation starter!
I remember reading somewhere that, if you’re going to do promotional gears, you should at the very least spend the effort to get some good design out of your t-shirt, hats, etc. Ah well, not a lot of companies bother to follow that guideline.
It’s unfortunate though that Emigrant Direct is slowly falling behind the competitive APY game. HSBC is definitely pushing their high-yield online saving accounts, I have twice seen two different TV advertisements during prime time now. I’m not really a rate chaser, but if the rate difference is big enough, I’ll be jumping ship – again.

I got that cap. I was tickled by the American flag on the back…and the tag inside that says “Made in China.” I wish they’d taken the money they spent on this promotion, and put it toward redesigning their website.
The cap went out with my last batch of stuff for charity.

I got mine before the holidays and like SMB’s it’s headed out with the next batch of charity donations. I have 2-3 baseball caps, and this one didn’t thrill me with design, fit or anything. Hopefully it will get good use by someone.
I really wish instead of sending hats, that they would have deposited the cost of producing and mailing a single hat into my account with a description of “we appreciate your business” or something. THAT would have “bought” my loyalty more directly ;)

hehe, I think I’ll keep mine. I’m going to find some kid to force it on. har har.
but yeah, seriously not sure what they’re thinking. there’s better ways to promote their products than this..
for starter, provide better service or bonus, and get more people to talk about it. I still haven’t jump ship yet, but I think I will soon.

Funny.
I got one too, out of the blue.
They had some sort of problem with their mail merge though because the box was addressed to me but the one page letter inside was addressed to some guy that lives a few miles from me. Oh well.

I got that hat and wear it quite frequently.. I wear caps backwards and so the design on the back is more important to me than the design on the front. Anyways I guess I’d rather be free advertising for a high yield savings account (help get those silly people earning 0.5% at places like BoA up to speed/foster more competition/rate chasing, drive up rates) than some baseball or football team.. considering those entities are no less corporate than any financial institution.
Of course I previously just wore a cheap blank cap. However this one was free..
