If millions can stand the crazy pack mass transit system, then they can probably handle standing in an airplane. heh. But for those of us raised to expect a little elbow room, who are already objecting to jets that pack us in like cattle (I always expect to hear mooing when I board an airplane), the backboard bit sounds intollerable, even for short flights. I don't even like having to stand up on the university's shuttle bus -- especially when I'm loaded down with a computer bag and a large book bag, and seated in front of me are a half-dozen surly-looking football players, who must be terribly frail if they need seats while a woman their mothers' age is forced to stand.
