$1,000 for me, $100 for you (Amazon Gift Cards Giveaway)
Posted by Cap in Deals and Discounts |I make money from my blog (yes, really). But to be honest, I’d always feel a bit sheepish about it — as if I’m cheating the balance of the universe by making money from writing about non-sense. I certainly don’t make enough to quit my day job (if I had one), but earnings did peak enough to warrant making filings to the lovely IRS.
Revenue from this blog is generated by a few different sources: Google ads that you’ll see on single pages; a handful of affiliate links that earns me a buck or two; the standard text links; and surprisingly, sign-ups from survey websites (something I completely forgot about).
I wrote a post awhile back that details how you can earn money online by taking online surveys. In essence, you sign-up, fill out your consumer attributes, and the companies occasionally sends you matching survey via email. The pay varies and depends on the difficulty and time involvement in the survey.
Last week, I logged into my SurveySavvy account and was surprised to find that I have accumulated over a thousand dollars in survey incentives. That’s a lot of Cheetos.
This is thanks to sign-ups from regular readers like you.
Seeing as how I didn’t do anything special for the blog’s three year anniversary, how about we give away a $5 Amazon gift certificate to 20 random readers? This will be sure to alleviate my money making guilt and/or celebrate three years of awful blogging.

$1,000 built up on a survey site, pretty good! The lonegst I have been able to hold out before requesting a check is $30.00! Could you count me in on the drawing also? Thanks
———
Done and done. Added to the drawing list! But yeah most of the money (as you can see from the screenshot) were from referral surveys. I only did 17 of them myself.
May 1st, 2008 at 10:18 pm
I always thought no one made any money from surveys. I guess it is all about getting others to join.
———
Yeah that’s a bit true. As I mentioned, most of the money came from referrals. I did rack up over a hundred myself though, but that’s because a handful of them were high paying surveys for IT related surveys.

May 2nd, 2008 at 7:38 am
I used to do online surveys and got paid for them, but the company I was doing them through changed their requirements so my computer isn’t compatible any more :-(
May 2nd, 2008 at 7:44 am
I really appreciate your tips on how to make money from surveys. I’d been looking for ways to make extra money without inconveniencing the family; your article was just in time! Thanks!

Why not 5 $20 cards to 5 lucky readers, huh?! LOL
———
I was gonna do $10 for 10, but thought this’ll be a bit better for the amount of potential replies.

Alright looks like we’ll have enough entry to warrant an early end to drawing. I wanted to make sure the chance to win wasn’t some ridiculous ratio.

May 3rd, 2008 at 8:56 am
You’ve got a very good website; don’t feel bad…
I like doing little things on the side for ‘extra/free’ money too. Maybe I should start a blog!
May 3rd, 2008 at 10:16 am
Thanks for a great site…the info about the paid surveys was great. I belong to another site where I can exchange my reward points in for giftcards, but let’s face it, cash is much more sufficient. I’m now spamming my family and friends so they all join as well.
Thanks again…and I promise not to buy crap the Amazon giftcard!
May 3rd, 2008 at 12:52 pm
Good stuff, congratulations on 3 years. =)

May 3rd, 2008 at 9:02 pm
My motivation to stop buying CRAP is thinking about having to find, sort, pack, lift, load, unload, unpack, put away, and organize all this CRAP when moving…………….makes me never want to buy another piece of CRAP ever again.
thanks for the great site.
May 3rd, 2008 at 10:17 pm

Love the website… I will use the $5 gift card on this: http://www.amazon.com/Borat-Mankini-Swimsuit-Costume-Suspender/dp/B000UGJSRU/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=apparel&qid=1209952842&sr=8-1

May 4th, 2008 at 7:55 pm
Very nice. This blog helps keep personal finance entertaining.
May 5th, 2008 at 7:49 am
mind sharing more info about making money off of these surveys?
May 5th, 2008 at 10:34 am
I actually walked into a friends house this weekend and looked at her and said “Stop buying Crap”. It was that bad in there.
My 9 year old would love a new book, should I win.
Thanks for keeping me crap-free. :)
May 5th, 2008 at 10:55 am
(^_^)
May 5th, 2008 at 10:56 am
sounds like a doosey! thanks, I enjoy the content
May 5th, 2008 at 2:08 pm
Talk about a way to get people to leave comments on your site. Kinda like when Baskin Robins gives away free ice cream and that creates a long line stretching out the door and around the corner of the block.
May 5th, 2008 at 3:44 pm
More crap reviews! More crap financial tips! We want more crap!
May 5th, 2008 at 5:05 pm
I will gladly leave a comment for a chance at a $5.00. Love your blogs.
May 5th, 2008 at 7:34 pm
:)
May 5th, 2008 at 8:02 pm
Wow, I might have to look into Survey Savvy for myself! (Using your referral, course :))
May 6th, 2008 at 6:55 am
Just found you through The Frugalista by way of Afrobella. I LOVE your blog title. My friend and I always talk about the mess folks are in thanks to buying “every piece of crap” they see. No more crap buying! But I do need silver summer sandals. Do they qualify as crap?
May 6th, 2008 at 10:15 am
I enjoy reading your blog. Keep it up!
May 6th, 2008 at 10:19 am
Survey Savvy, haven’t heard of that one.
May 6th, 2008 at 11:49 am
Just another cheap bastard checking in…
