Cheyenne: I wouldn’t lose any sleep over it. Its more their responsibility than yours, plus if you’ve been there for two years this person has most likely moved on and out of the area, and most likely no longer has anything to do with jury duty for the city and/or county you’re in.

For the last two years since we moved into our apartment we have been receiving mail for the last person who lived here.We keep returning it and telling the post man there is no such occupant at this address.Today a letter came for this person and on the front of the envelope it said was a jury duty notice.We didn’t open it of course.We returned it with a note that says no such occupant.Should we call and let them know they have the wrong address for this person?We have no idea who this person is or where they are.

I received my jury duty summon about a month ago… I guess I have to call after 5:00 P.M. but this is ridiculous… if the automated recording tells me to go in the following day early in the morning, I will have to explain all this to my employer. (I have 2 jobs! And attend college) so many people I must inform o.O
I’ve already notified all of them about the summon but they do not know when I will be ‘summoned’

And calling every day to check will suck! I won’t be able to plan s#!^

Any possibilities that my jury duty service being rescheduled for a possibly appearance time though? Man, I felt awful.

I received the summon letter to start on April 6th, 2009. I called every day to report from Monday of this week, which is the 30th of March.

Today is Friday, April 3rd, I called in and the automated system said that I am being rescheduled for possible appearance later this week. Also asked to call again today at 6:00PM PST, California time, I live in Lake Elsinore. This is my first time that ever got summoned for jury duty service.

Any advice or inputs would be great. So much for democracy in which we do not have the option to not to go to jury duty service.

a friend claimed she was a friend of police officers and she was asked the names and she was excused from duty.she had shown up tho and did know the officers.a friend was going to be put on a trial of robbery by a minority and asked to be excused bcs he and his wife were robbed by same type of minority.he was excused.he did show up tho and the claim was true.

I’m currently contemplating the “never received my summons” excuse since it goes to the wrong address despite the fact I gave the DMV my new address.

They don’t need to know that the address it went to is my good friend’s house…

Hi,

I completely forgot about my jury duty summon. I was supposed to call in starting last Friday but I completely forgot. I only remember because my brother asked me today when my jury duty was. I too am supposed to go to the West Justice Center. May I know what happened next after you received that postcard? I am really nervous right now. Am I in real deep trouble? I really don’t want to pay a fine or go to jail.

I totally enjoyed my last bout of civic duty a few weeks ago. I had two whole days of reading a book quietly in a big chair, with one interlude of sitting in a courtroom and watching a guy cop a plea right before jury selection.

What’s not to like?

Scott: As Paula said, just call them to reschedule. It’s not that mortifying as some of the notices makes it seem… (although there is consequences for consecutively failing to reply to your jury summons).

Jay: That’s actually surprisingly straight-forward.

Volunteer? No way. You get paid about $15 for a whole day of waiting around. In Arizona, they request a large enough pool that only a very small fraction gets called in for questioning. They use the large pool to scare those waiting for trial to plea-bargain, saving the system money. They aren’t afraid to state that on their website.

Funny to see this on my RSS feed since I did the exact same thing this week as well. I had moved from that county and just needed to file for an exemption, but the summons went to an old address and it didn’t make it into my hands until a week before I was to appear. I procrastinated just long enough to find myself faxing in the exemption form the day after I was supposed to appear… can I call them and ask if I’m in trouble or should I just wait until I get a postcard?
