Nice post. I used to get these Paypal emails all the time saying my account info needed updated. Before ever opening one, I always check the link source and it always had some weird URL that didn't look like something Ebay would send.

It was a Phish email, and Paypal sent out a warning later that week. But I'm terrfied of the targeted phishing. What will hackers think of next???

Excellent article! I've never fallen victim to phishing scams (thank God), but I always err on the side of caution and delete them all. If I think something legitimate is going on with my account, I delete the email, then go login and check for message or account activity.

Also, just FYI - I don't think #3 (Non-US Dating Format) is a surefire sign of phishing. In fact, ddmmyyyy is THE dating format used by official US Government correspondence. :-)

Excellent article. These guys are getting smarter and better when it comes to these emails that they send out. I'm pretty computer savvy, so I tend to spot them right away and delete them. In fact, I just got one yesterday from International Travel or something like that. Anyhow, I can definitely see how people can fall for something like this. A non-technical person probably wouldn't even think twice about that email. What I would've liked to have seen in this post is the page that you get taken to when the link in the email is clicked. Usually they're very professionally done and contain all of the logos and graphics from highly reputable companies. Very deceiving.
