Gift Certificate for Mother’s Day?
Posted by Cap in Miscellaneous |Well. I’m out of ideas.
I don’t know what to get for my mom for Mother’s Day this Sunday. So I’m just going to get her a gift certificate for a trip to a Burke Williams day spa—and some flowers?
There was a post about gift certificates on another PF blog awhile back, and lots of people chime in to discuss on the pros and cons of gift certificate, e.g. it’s a thoughtless gift etc.
I really don’t think a simple gift certificate is a good way to show my appreciate for my mom, but uh… yeah. There’s a few days left, maybe I’ll think of something nicer before Sunday.

I would rather have a gift certificate for something I could use, rather than an “impulse” gift which might just sit up in the closet, the money spent not put to good use.

Better a gift card to a day spa then one to Target.

That is true. yeah I’m sure she’ll use it because she told me she enjoyed it the last time she went (quite awhile back).. but eh, feels like I can do better. ah well. I’ll clean up the house for her today heh.

Well, this just in from Punny Money about Mother’s Day gift ideas: http://www.punny.org/money/five-wallet-friendly-and-unique-mothers-day-gifts/
Maybe that will help spark the creative gifting Muse.

I’m not a mom, but I’d love a GC to Burke Williams! Plus it shows you were listening when she said she enjoyed it the first time, so I think it is a good choice.
Consumables are definitely the best gifts. This time I sent some Royal Riviera pears from Harry and David. They are the most freaking awesome pears you will ever taste (Mom agreed)!

I like to know that the gift I give is going to be USED, and not just stored away somewhere with all the other gifts just given out of obligation, without any thought to them. Last year I gave my then 83 year old MIL a gift to “Reminisce” magazine, she loved looking at all the old-timey pics and reading the stories. It was a gift that kept giving all year long.
