Blood Test to Login Your ING Direct Account
Posted by Cap in Online Banking on July 7, 2006 |
To make our lives better, ING Direct will introduce some brand new, break-through, innovative, and state-of-the-art security feature—ala Bank of America’s SiteKey. Yay.
It probably won’t be so bad, especially if they’ll replace the current PIN key map with it.
The new security feature, ingeniously named Site Guard, is straight-forward enough to use. You choose a picture and phrase to associate with your account. When you see the picture, you’ll know that you’re at the real ING Direct site. If you see anything but the right picture and the right phrase, careful—you’re at a fake spoof site!

I don’t think they’re replacing the pin keypad thing. That’s to stop keyloggers. This security feature is to make sure you’re sure you’re at the ING website. Different function.
I don’t like the pin keypad, either.
This part looks to be more along the lines to ditch the keypad at least from some computers: “To make your login experience even easier, you can “register” your computer with us, so that the next time you login from that computer, we will recognize you.”

Having an image AFTER you login is like buying a lifejacker afer a flood. It’s too late. You’ve already logged in to the fake site and theives have your username and password. Sure, you could call the bank if you don’t see the pretty image, but it’s still a day late and a dollar short.

If it works like SiteKey at Bank of America, you put in only your user name at first. Then you get your image and phrase displayed.. if those are both correct, only then do you type in your password.

ah yeah I think I didn’t make it clear. If it worked the other way around, then yeah, it would have been awfully stupid.
I’m pretty sure it’ll work like the sitekey as mentioned, you see the image and phrase before you login.
