Apply for Credit Card & Get a Free Bottle of Soda? Hell Yes!?
Posted by Cap in Stop Buying Crap! |Chalk this up to incredibly stupid credit card offer from the gangs at Walmart.

As Admiral Ackbar so eloquently said, it’s a trap!

Back in the early 90’s I saw this a lot on my college campus – they’d put up a card table signing up people for a credit card and giving away bottles of soda. I saw one once giving away king-size snickers bars!

Love the Admiral Ackbar reference (although he only starred in the cr&ppiest original Star Wars trilogy.) I think the worst trap I fell for was opening a store credit card so I can save 10% on a $5 panty. I think that might be worse than the free soda.

This is very common nowadays, almost all financial institutions are offering free prizes to credit card applications.

‘Our wallets can’t repulse offers of that magnitude!’

I don’t remember them giving away bottles of soda, on my college campus it was always t-shirts. It was almost a joke, I think some guys never had to do a load of laundry. They just kept signing up for credit cards and getting free t-shirts, problem solved.

Wow, that’s a terrible offer hahha, especially nowadays. Back in the day, on colleges with t-shirts, that was how they marketed. Now, they offer CASH. :)

That bottle of soda is probably worth about $3,000 in interest collected during the life of the card. Dang, it better taste like gold! :)
