All coffee shops are a huge markup, not just Starbucks… My homemade morning latte costs me $.50 (I did the math a little while back!) and the time spent is the same as stopping at a coffeehouse and waiting and such.

Now of course when I am out of town I do pop in but usually just for drip coffees…

Guilty. I love the stuff, but I’m trying to cut back to once a week. It’s just so convenient when you work full time and go to school-it’s just not always so easy to bring coffee from home and you need the caffeine jolt.

As part of my lifetime of frugality that has paid off very well, I never buy Starbucks coffee.

However, my brother, who is deeply in debt, buys the stuff all the time.

when we bought a house, idecided this was the FIRST thing to go- daily trips to starbucks!! i cannot believe how much we’ve saved?!?!?!?

Yes, those $3 a day habits do really add up!

Let’s see:
$3*365 = $1095 per year.

That doesn’t include the overpriced confections, cakes or cookies.

So you could really save quite a lot of money this way!

I think Starbucks is a money drain. I hate the high prices and this new vocabulary frequent starbucks customer use when they are ordering.

Why cant these morons just say Small instead of “tall”?

I bought a Keurig brewer (B40) at Amazon.com (with a coupon code I got it half-off) and I go every several months and order coffee at Green Mountain coffee.com. It tastes SO much better than Starbucks.

I had starbucks only once. Some sort of iced chocolate drink. Tasted good enough, but so does dairy queen’s iced coffees. Some of my favorite cappachino comes from the gas station for 89 cents. Can’t beat that, though I think I might try Julie’s recipe :D.

I like to splurge on an outrageously expensive coffee once or twice a mo. but I prefer the indy shoppes. We have Seattles Best at work—and I have Yuban at home. Works for me.

Recipe for Caramel Frappachinno- cost about 25 cents

Brew some double strength dark roast coffee ( I like Kroger generic just fine) – I make about 5 cups worth for the week and put in fridge
Use 1/2 cup of it with 1/2 cup milk (I use 2%, SB uses whole), 8 ice cubes two packets of Splenda (SB uses 3Tb of Sugar!!!) and a few squeezes of caramel ice cream topping (I like Smuckers- WalMart $1.96) Mix in blender and enjoy! Also enjoy the facts that you aren’t drinking 500 calories and that you didn’t spend $4.84 for it!!

Starbucks has to be the worst coffee in the U.S. Okay, maybe it’s a tie with Denny’s. Starbucks coffee is highly-acidic, not very flavorful, and expensive. Ever order a mixed drink? Starbucks doesn’t make them up fresh. They use pre-packaged mix. Go to a nice independent coffee house where they make the Cafe Mocha’s and blended drinks with freshly-brewed coffee, not something out of a package.

It’s dessert for breakfast. We go once a month or less as a weekend breakfast treat (and spend about $15 on two fancy coffees and 3 food items). I do not understand how people can go there every day.

People at work give me crap about buying Starbucks. I just point out that my Starbucks cost less then the breakfast they buy at the cafeteria. And since it has about as many calories, I don’t need to eat breakfast when I drink a caramel latte or some other creamy sweet coffee drink. Plus what a time saver, I buy it and go right to work! :)
