Well, it WOULD be 50/50, but sometimes you push so hard you THINK it would have gone in had it it been on the right side, so you flip it, figure out you're wrong, and then try again. Really, someone should just make the plug cylindrical (like the red, whit and yellow cables you use to plugin a DVD player) so you never get it wrong.

No matter matter how many times I do it--I always put it in upside down the first time (so of course, it doesn't fit.) I will have to remember what PC said.

I'm with missiondebtfreedom. It usually takes me three or four tries. After that I get a little light headed from bending over my computer and have to take a nap and try again later.

USB plugs have the USB logo molded into the plastic on one side only. This side should be facing up.
Doing this will castly increase your odds of right-first-time :-)

(I know, doesnt help for vertical sockets)

Considering it's 50-50, I'd say it's probably not every... unless you always flip heads. :)

That's one reason I was always hoping for Firewire to win out.

I've never had problems plugging them in.

I finally figured out a way to put it in correctly every time. This doesn't work as well when I'm fumbling around with USB slots in the rear of a desktop, however.

There are two squares cut on each side the plating of the male USB plug. On one of the sides, the squares are actually two holes, while the other pair has a plate (typically white) immediately beneath it. On my laptop (as well as most horizontally oriented USB ports) the side with the holes is the side that goes face up. Works every time!

Hope that helps.
