Honestly, I agree with Corey

Yes, it's nice, but it's still annoying -_-

Unless I'm old geezer, I'm holding something heavy,a door will be shutting for the "last" time, or both of my arms have been amputated, NO, I DO NOT NEED YOU TO OPEN THE DOOR FOR ME. Other reasons why it's annoying?

1. Like Corey said It slows down traffic
2. I really don't feel like I owe you a "thanks" to something I could have EASILY done just so you can show your jolliness
3. I don't feel like running to the door when you make the mistake of opening it from a far

Ok...point made...IT'S ANNOYING :P

I hate it when people hold the door for me, especially when I am behind them, all's this does is slow down traffic moving through the doorway. Sometimes people stretch out an arm physically blocking the door way, it's just annoying. Look people we have arms and eyes, if you cannot use your arms to grab a closing door maybe you should stay inside. (excluding those with no arms)

This topic is right on cue. On Sunday my family went out for lunch. I was first at the door so I held it open for them. 3 young ladies were also coming out. So my family went in, they came out and 4 or 5 people were walking up to go in. I was still holding the door and the great thing was every single one said thank you.

I always hold the door if people are behind me and I always say thank you if someone holds the door. It is nice to know people still have manners.

I've never seen a guy look uncomfortable by me (a girl) holding open a door for him. I hold doors for anyone and hope that when someone holds it for me, they hear me say thank you - this is an action that could stand to be contagious :)

but I'll admit to getting a little miffed when I open the door for someone walking with me and a person from the inside shoves past, even worse if s/he doesn't say thanks.

lol thats so wrong. Personally I dont even bother to chase elevators unless someone really is holding it (via their hand).

The same deal with someone holding the door. Isn't it weird if someone is holding it for you while you're well out of reach, so you feel obligated to make a dash towards the door? lol.

but yeah it's also incredibly wacky if you suddenly become the doorman, as SkyeBlue mentioned. I had a whole family walk past me without thanks, as if I was a doorman. ouch.

anyway, it's just a rant. I dont know about females holding the door, not a big deal to me.. but I think at the end, as long as you take some care, and not slam the @$*# door on someone's face (as mentioned), then you're cool.

If I'm already in an elevator, and someone is running to catch it before the door closes, I usually lay on the "close door" button pretty heavily. Then I make a gesture towards the door, like I'm trying to stop it, but I'm not really. And I give them an apologetic look as it closes in front of them. Like, "Oh man, I tried! Sorry!"

I always try to hold the door for people who are coming behind me, but when you have 5 or 6 people trailing in after the first one, and no one else offers to hold the door, that is kind of irritating.

I totally agree. I always hold the door open for people close behind. The art of common courtesy seems as though it is fading into the past. :o(

There's nothing wrong with females holding doors open for males you've never met. It's common courtesy. As far as a female opening the door for her boyfriend, that's more of a personal issue between them. For everyone else, it's holding it and not being a *#*&@ by letting it slam in the next person's face.

Being female, I've found that I can hold open a door no problem for another female, but if I'm going to hold it open for a guy, I have to do this holding it with the tips of my fingers I'm-about-to-walk-away thing that seems to make it more palatable. Otherwise, you can see see the discomfort on their face, and what's the point of being polite if you're making someone feel worse in the process?
