Sounds like Japan, but you don't get a choice...all highways are toll roads. Ad $5 - $6 a gallon gas and you know why I take the train everywhere ;)

fivecentnickel: seriously. imagine paying over $10 everyday (in addition to gas) to get to work.

ncn: oh thats not a dumb question. i was wondering that myself till I read the express lane's website.

its per toll entry. For example if I head in the expressway West during 8 AM Wednesday to get to work it'll cost $3.55. If I leave for work and head back home the same day at 5 PM, its $7 to head back via the Eastbound.

see the thing is I thought about using it once in awhile too, just when I really really dont want to deal with traffic.

problem is, according to the account types they offer.. if I'm not going to use it that much, I'll need to pay a non-refundable $75 deposit for the Transponder device (which when I pass a point, charges the toll eletronically on my account).

they have a standard plan which requires you to at least spend $7 in toll each month.

and finally the frequent plan which requires you to take more than 20 trip per month, and has a $20 monthly fee - in addition to the toll charges.

I duno, their site is kinda confusing in the wording.. so I'm having trouble figuring out if its right for me.

the only good that came outta this is, I know what time I should try to leave.. since the more expensive the toll, the more there will be traffic.
