Just saw the link to this in another post. I’ve been to that Houston Amtrak station several times… to depart ;) Love the train…

And… I married an internet friend – almost nine years ago. When we first met (11 years ago), I didn’t talk about him to my ‘real life’ friends. He was in England and I was in Texas. Now, when people ask how we met, we tell them and most hardly blink an eye!

well, back and alive. thanks for all the happy wishes. I made the mistake of underestimating my ability to get motion sickness, and neglecting an ear plug (my room made a weird humming noise 24/7).

Zach: Yeah thats what I kept hearing/reading and it was exactly spot on. most of the people I met was friendly, and just started up conversation with random people while in the dinning car.

imelda: met internet friends, in fact. but these are people I have been talking to for over 7 years. so it wasn’t as strange or awkward. although I did got interesting looks as I explained to people that I’m meeting this girl in houston, whom I’ve met online.. and I’m staying at her boyfriend’s place while there..

Carolyn & GDR: yeah on this particular route, the Union Pacific pretty much owned the entire trip I think. I expected it as much and was okay with the stop and go. Actually only got to destination about 50 minutes late. Pretty amazing in fact. Kinda sad though because I got there at 6:40, and they don’t start serving breakfast till 6:30. I honestly was hoping they would be late at least an hour or two so I can get my morning meal in. Bummer.

I’m jealous…
I love traveling by Amtrak, but I always allow that I’ll be 8-12 hours late…like Carolyn said…freight lines own most of the miles…

I love the train too. The only bad part is that Amtrak owns very little of the track. So passengers often still waiting on idle trains while fruit and auto parts on freight trains go whipping by. Aw well, at least Amtrak was there for was when we could not fly. I wish you a wonderful and delay free trip.

You should have a great time. Be sure to have a nice dinner in the dining car. It’s a great way to meet some fellow passengers. Most everyone is really nice on the train, because it will mainly be train-lovers who are traveling; so the atmosphere is much more pleasant than on a plane. My wife is not a train fan, so I jump on every chance I get to take a train these days. Have a great trip! By the way, I posted a link to your blog on my new blog (see the link).

its scheduled to be about 36 hours but will most likely take about 40, but yeah got myself a sleeper.

That’s a long way from Ontario, how long is the trip? Did you get a sleeper?

I love train travel, have a good vacation.
