I had a issue today, going grocery shopping and had a full cart and after all the bags in my cart I ran my credit card and sure enough, they couldn't process my payment so I called wamu and they told me that the state of Florida was one of the first changes. Accounts getting switched over and Fund in the account won't be able to use till Monday. I just wish I recieved some kind of notice SOS I wouldn't have spent 2 hours. Shopping to basically waste my time. Thanks wamu or should I say Chase...

I got a notice in the mail stating as of January 1st, there will be a charge for Overdrafts in my checking account, whereas before it was taken from my savings to cover the amount, the accounts are linked. I really liked that feature, as I didn't need to worry about the balance in the checking, now that is gone.

I bank with Wamu and I was stunned to find out what happened. I kept hearing stuff, I didn't believe that it could really happen. That was before all the other financial institutions started folding. My main concern is will Chase eventually change some of the perks that Wamu had for example if needed, I had access to funds for overdraft without taking out a line of credit or what have you. I wonder if Chase will discontinue that option. I used it monthly to be able to pay my rent on time. I worry that if that changes anytime soon, I'll be in a bind. But on the flip side, I did want to stop needing to use it so, perhaps it's better if they change it. I dunno. Anyway, I loved Wamu as it was. I enjoyed banking with them. Didn't have any problems as I had when I banked with Wells Fargo. Oh well.

This is actually a great article since you included the question and answers. I've seen so many articles on this topic and there is general panic over the acquisition. In fact, Kristin just wrote an article about the same topic over at Twenties Money Magazine talking about her friend freaking out. I’m hoping to get some further information about this come Monday from a friend of mine. His wife worked for WaMu and has been in meetings all day about what’s going on with everything. It is really startling to see all of these major banks going down while I sit and consider how I have a small town credit union. The thought does cross my mind; “well if these major banks are falling…where does my small bank stand.
