I genreally just accumulate up metal scrapes, get the 10% bonus and go claim my xp/bonus from Walter (provided he hasn't glitched into the void). I probably would have taken on the Swift Learner perk but it would been a waste for a perk. I'd encourage you to skip it. There's a 20 level cap on the unmodded game. Once you hit 20, there is little incentive to get more XP. In fact, there is none at all!
